Amazon Bedrock now supports OpenAI-style fine-tuning jobs for open-weight models, including reinforcement with Lambda graders.
AWS published OpenAI-compatible fine-tuning job APIs for Bedrock open-weight models, so you can point the OpenAI SDK at Bedrock (OPENAI_BASE_URL) and call /v1/fine_tuning/jobs docs.
Reinforcement fine-tuning wires a Lambda grader into training and exposes job events, checkpoints, and inference with the tuned model. Some OpenAI fields differ (e.g., suffix not supported).
You can reuse existing OpenAI SDK fine-tuning pipelines on Bedrock with minimal code changes.
Lambda-based graders let you encode company policies and quality rules directly into training.
-
terminal
Run a small RFT job via the OpenAI SDK pointed at Bedrock with a trivial Lambda grader; verify job events, checkpoints, and the tuned model work end-to-end.
-
terminal
Benchmark the tuned model vs. base on a held-out eval set; compare quality, latency, and cost.
Legacy codebase integration strategies...
- 01.
Swap OPENAI_BASE_URL to Bedrock and move auth to IAM; validate VPC endpoints, CloudWatch logs, and least-privilege for the Lambda grader.
- 02.
Map your existing OpenAI fine-tuning monitoring to Bedrock job events; reconcile checkpoint storage and your model registry.
Fresh architecture paradigms...
- 01.
Adopt OpenAI-style APIs from day one while keeping models and data inside AWS governance boundaries.
- 02.
Design a Lambda grader that encodes review rules and KPIs to steer outputs via RFT.
